Unibet, the flagship sports betting brand of Kindred Group Plc, has announced that it has taken on the sponsorship of the IHF World Handball Championship currently underway in Denmark and Germany.

Under the terms of the deal, Unibet have gained sponsorship coverage as well as logo rights through a partnership with the International Handball Federation (IHF).

Updating the media, Unibet emphasised how important handball had become to betting fans and in particular to their customer base, revealing that it was third behind football and tennis in the list of most popular betting sports with Unibet customers.

Speaking about the new deal with the IHF, the Chief Commercial Officer at Kindred Group, Rhodri Darch, said that the sponsorship fitted well with Unibet’s growing European presence, and followed on from previous handball sponsorships in 2015, 2017 and 2018:

“We have a leading offering on handball among bookmakers and saw an impressive interest during the Olympics 2016 in terms of turnover and actives. Since then, we have invested in our exposure in the sport with the European and World Championship for both men and women being the highlights.”

The IHF World Championship got underway on January 10 and will run to January 27. Holders France are bidding to win their third world title in a row.
