It’s a testament to the show’s originality that Season Three of Stranger Things was commissioned very quickly after the second season hit the screens.

The Duffer Brothers science fiction horror series revolves around the town of Hawkins, Indiana in the early 1980s and was an unlikely hit on paper. But on the small screen, critical acclaim for every aspect of the show quickly surfaced.

We need to make the most of it, however. The Duffer Brothers confirmed season four or five will be the last one.

Season One featured Winona Ryder and Matthew Modine, with the central plot surrounding supernatural events and a missing child. Eleven appeared with psychokinetic abilities while in Season Two, we meet Eleven’s sister, Kali – or Eight – whose ‘superpower’ is to create an illusion in human minds.

Her story entwined with the after-effects of Season One in Hawkins. The Mind Flayer wreaks havoc as the Upside Down wants Will Byers. Eleven finds Eight but the pair split up after Eleven returns to Hawkins to help her friends who are in trouble.

When Does It Air?

We won’t have to wait too long for Netflix’s cult hit to air: the first episode screens on Independence Day, 4th July 2019, according to the official Twitter feed!

What’s Going To Happen?

Already there are teasers about the new season. At the New York City Toy Fair last week, merchandise surfaced which showed the gang with radical new looks.

The action for Season Three takes place in 1985 so the children are teenagers, but stranger things are happening under the auspices of the new mayor, Kline. The centre of the story is the corruption taking place in Hawkins, with focus on the Starcourt Mall.

With a new threat uncovered, the disappearance of a lifeguard at the community pool brings the haunting problems of previous years back to the surface.

There are several subplots running as well. Burgeoning relationships between Mike and ‘El’ while Max and Lucas are an ‘item’. Executive producer on the show confirmed those relationships, teasing “But again, they’re like 13- or 14-year-old kids, so what does romance mean at that stage of life? It can never be simple and stable relationships and there’s fun to that instability.”

What Are The Odds?

With the titles for the eight episodes released, questions started almost immediately:

  • Suzy, Do You Copy?
  • The Mall Rats
  • The Case Of The Missing Lifeguard
  • The Sauna Test
  • The Source
  • The Birthday
  • Bite
  • The Battle Of Starcourt

The first was who is “Suzy”? And who was asking if she copied?

But the burning question is whether Eleven and Eight will find one another again? In Season Two, Eleven tracked her sister down in Pittsburgh, finding she was a part of a street gang in the city.

They didn’t part on good terms, however. Eleven refused to kill a lab technician as part of Eight’s revenge plot and left, leaving Kali and the gang with a close call as the police close in.

Given the acrimonious parting, a reunion is hoped for by many fans, but the bookmakers aren’t so sure. 188bet thinks that if it happens, reuniting the pair won’t take place inside the first two episodes of the new season, offering 2/13 on it happening.

Or looking at it another way, a 15/4 long shot on the sisters putting aside their differences!
