The son of Deion Sanders has committed to play his College Football at the University of South Carolina. Shilo Sanders had numerous offers, with Tennessee and Nebraska being a couple of the biggest contenders, but the Gamecocks were his final decision according to his latest tweet:
Sanders is listed at 6’0 but is known as a very physical corner, who has shown the ability to play both the nickel and safety. He took two visits to campus and formed a close relationship with head coach Will Muschamp.
Being a three-star defensive player out of Cedar Hill in Texas, Sanders led his school (Trinity Christian) with 19 tackles and five interceptions during his senior season. Shilo then played in the Under Armour All American Game, and performed well, garnering looks from many other college coaches.
Sanders had this to say about his decision, “All I was thinking was it would be great to play in front a crowd like that, an atmosphere with all the energy and the crowd like that.”
The Gamecocks have one of their best recruiting classes in years as they also grabbed cornerback Cameron Smith for the upcoming season. In fact, the class ranked 23rd in the latest recruiting rankings, and the addition of Sanders could push them into the Top 20.
South Carolina was not listed in the Top 20 teams to win the 2020 National Championship, with their current odds listed at +6000. When the recruiting class is finalized, many expect the Gamecocks to move within the Top 20 and settle in around +5000 odds. Other names such as Jaquaze Sorrells and Jammie Robinson, along with Darius Washington all have South Carolina on their minds.
The Gamecocks open their 2019 season on August 31st against the North Carolina Tar Heels in Charlotte. South Carolina opens up their SEC play on September 14th against the Crimson Tide of Alabama.
