Australian betting giant Tabcorp has made a change in its advertising strategy as the Australian betting industry faces a tougher regulatory climate in 2019.
According to reports in the Australian media, Tabcorp Holdings have awarded their creative advertising account to well known agency M&C Saatchi Australia.
Saatchi Australia, which is based in Sydney, is set to take over what is a multi-million dollar account from the current agency, Clemenger (BBDO Group), who have been working as creative lead for Tabcorp since 2016.
And reports suggest that M&C Saatchi did not have to pitch for the Tabcorp account, as Luke Waldren, the group’s General Manager for Group Marketing and Customer Engagement, personally sanctioned the award of the advertising account.
Waldren joined Tabcorp last year, when he moved from their online competitor Sportsbet.com, and has been given the task of coming up with new brand ideas and customer engagement strategies for the gambling group, which has recently completed a $11 billion purchase of Tatts Group.
Going into 2018, Tabcorp leadership announced that the company would be focusing on its main TAB domain, but like all betting companies, the group faces tough marketing regulations in 2019, including the controversial ‘whistle-to-whistle’ ban on betting advertising.
