Premier League – Manchester City v Everton- Prediction, Odds, Betting Tips and Team News

Wednesday 1 January: 5.30pm KO

Live on BT Sport

A few weeks ago this would hve been Manchester City hosting an Everton side battling relegation. Now City’s opponents are closer to the Europa League places than the relegation zone.

Latest Odds

It doesn’t take a great deal to see yourself climb up the Premier League table. Everton were in the relegation zone and that led to them sacking Marco Silva. A run of three straight losses has been followed by an unbeaten run of 11 points from five matches. Now Everton are 10th in the table and seven points above the bottom three having won their first two games under Carlo Ancelotti. They are now only 9/1 (10.0) at Betfair to finish in the top six.

Everton have won three of their last five league games and even showed form on the road. Two away games against Manchester United and Newcastle United have produced four points. Their previous four away league points had taken eight games to achieve. You can get odds of 9/1 (10.0) at Paddy Power on them beating City on New Year’s Day.

Manchester City begin the new year 14 points behind league leaders Liverpool and they’ve played a game more. They are now 14/1 (15.0) to win the title but it’s going to take an almighty Liverpool collapse for them to get close.

City lost to Wolves on December 27 and still keep having that occasional game when it goes wrong for them. Home form has shown that with losses to both Wolves and Manchester United. There are odds of 2/7 (1.28) at Unibet on them starting 2020 with a home win over Everton.

Manchester City have won their last four games against Everton scoring 11 goals. Both teams have scored in four of their last five matches. The odds of that stat coming up on New Year’s Day are 4/6 (1.66) at Coral.

Team News

Manchester City have Ederson back from suspension and also have Gabriel Jesus fit again. David Silva and John Stones will have late fitness tests. Everton will be without Andre Gomes and Alex Iwobi. Morgan Schneirderlin may miss the match too.

Everton have improved but this is their stiffest task since the sacking of Marco Silva. City continue to be strong at home and should be able to get the win here. A bet on City to win and both teams to score has odds of 6/5 (2.2) if your bet is placed at William Hill.
