Is It too early to give out the bet of the year award? Perhaps, but few will be better than a 2282.75/1 four-fold that turned a free bet into £11,413.75. It’s a bet that got off to a disastrous start but an amazing end.
Jack Andreae placed a four-fold bet on Newcastle United, Luton Town, MK Dons and Valencia all to win with both teams scoring. With Newcastle at odds of 28/1, this was an optimistic gamble. To make it more nail-biting, the games kicked off at different times.
Luton and MK Dons both kicked off at 7.45pm and took first-half leads but the problems were at Newcastle. Their game began at 8pm but after just 24 seconds, City took the lead and the bet was in big trouble.
Over in Spain, the Copa del Rey game between Valencia and Getafe didn’t start until 8.30pm. By 8.31 the bet had suffered another major blow as Getafe took a first-minute lead. It got worse as Portsmouth equalized at Luton with a 52nd minute goal. At least the MK Dons game was going ok with the home side 2-1 up after 67 minutes.
Luton’s game caused more nail-biting as a 77th minute goal gave Luton the lead, but two minutes later it was all-square again. With four minutes to go George Moncur hit the winner for Luton and with MK Dons holding onto their lead, the bet had two winning legs.
Newcastle still had to come from behind to beat Manchester City and no one expected that, well apart perhaps from Jack. A 66th minute equalizer was followed by an 80th minute winner and the bet was still alive.
All now depended on Valencia but despite equalizing, there was no sign of a winner going into second-half injury time. Then Rodrigo scored in the 92nd and 93rd minutes to complete a hat-trick and secure this amazing bet for Jack.
