A massive game at the top of English League Two. Lincoln City are the league leaders and can go eight-points clear with a victory at Mansfield Town. Their opponents are fourth in the table but a home win on Monday will see them move into the third and final automatic promotion place.
Lincoln City top League Two by five points with nine games to go. They kept that lead as second-placed Bury saw their scheduled Saturday home game against Cambridge United postponed. A win at Mansfield is important for two reasons. Firstly, it’ll take them eight-points clear at the top but also extend their lead over fourth-placed Mansfield Town to 13 points making a top-three finish and automatic promotion look even more certain.
They are currently 8/13 (1.61) at Betfred to win the League Two title this season. That’s understandable as they are on a long unbeaten league run at present. Boxing Day wasn’t a day of celebration for Lincoln City as it’s the last time they lost a league match.
That 2-1 loss at Crewe Alexandra has been followed by a unbeaten run of 14 league games. The only loss this year has been away at Premier League Everton in the FA Cup.
Their away form has seen Lincoln City go seven league games without defeat and three of the last five have ended in a win. It’s 9/5 (2.8) on Lincoln City winning this game on Monday evening.
A draw wouldn’t be a bad result for Lincoln and that has been the result in three of their last six away league games. You can get odds of 23/10 (2.3) at William Hill on this game ending all-square.
Mansfield Town are fourth in the table but will have been happy at Saturday’s results. Third-placed MK Dons only drew with Stevenage, so Mansfield only trail them by a point. A draw will take them into the final automatic promotion spot.
Three of the next four Mansfield league games are at home and they’ll be looking to rack up a fair few points in those matches. The other two are against Crewe Alexandra and Cambridge United, both of whom are in the bottom half of the table.
You can get odds of 20/1 (21.0) at Betway on Mansfield Town winning League Two this season. A more likely winner is them winning promotion and Betfred will give you odds of 4/7 (1.57) on them doing just that.
Their current form is a bit of a worry though with just one point from their last two league games. They lost 2-1 at Port Vale and were then held to a goalless draw at Crawley Town.
Home form is keeping them in the hunt for automatic promotion with five straight league victories with 12 goals scored. The odds on a sixth home win in a row are 6/4 (2.5) at Betfair.
Lincoln City have failed to win any of their last four games against Mansfield Town. This is their third meeting of the season with Mansfield winning 2-1 at Lincoln in the EFL Trophy and then drawing there 1-1 in November.
Mansfield Town will be without Matt Preston, Ryan Sweeney, Bobby Olenjik, Hayden White, Jordan Graham, Craig Davies and Danny Rose. Lincoln City have Sam Habergham out injured.
Both Teams to Score Looks Good
11 of the last 12 games played between these two sides has seen both teams score. That’s also happened in three of the last four Lincoln City away league matches. You can get 8/11 (1.72) at SkyBet on that being the case on Monday.
Walker on Target?
Tyler Walker has been in great form for Mansfield this season and regularly scores in home matches. He’s hit the back of the net in three of their last four played at the One Call Stadium. Walker is 5/1 (6.0) at Bet365 to score the first goal in this match and 8/5 (2.6) to score in the match.
Both teams would love three points from this game as they continue their bid to win promotion. Mansfield Town have an impressive home record but Lincoln are on a long unbeaten run. A bet on a draw with both teams scoring is 18/5 (4.6) at BetVictor.
