Billy Walters once placed a successful 3.5 million dollar bet on the New Orleans Saints beating the Indianapolis Colts in the Super Bowl. A few years after that triumph, and Walters was headed to prison.

Perhaps that’s why you don’t see quite a lot of bets of such mammoth size in the present decade. Sharks and high-rollers are afraid of the conspicuous publicity.

But they’re apparently not scared of making huge bets in secrecy.

According to a report in SB Nation, an anonymous better has placed a 1.5 million dollar wager on the Los Angeles Rams to beat the New England Patriots straight-up in Super Bowl LIII.

The Patriots have been an exceedingly popular pick on the point spread, which has been hovering between a 2 and 3-point nod New England over the past week. But the moneyline is the market in which gamblers pick a straight-up winner. The Rams are currently at (+120) payout odds at William Hill, where the monster bet was placed. The unnamed bettor stands to make close to $2,000,000 if L.A. wins the big game.

Adding sauce to the storyline, the high-roller in question won a 7-figure bet on the Philadelphia Eagles to upset the Patriots in Super Bowl LII in Minneapolis last February.

While the L.A. Rams may not be America’s point-spread pick for Sunday’s climactic NFL gala, it appears that the Mountain Goats could be a popular “SU” wager among sharks on the weekend before kickoff.

Super Bowl LIII will begin at 6:45 PM Eastern Standard Time at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, GA.
