Pep Guardiola’s City to punish soft Toffee’s! Goodison Park 6th February 2019. Kick-Off 19.45.
Marco Silva – Looking Over His Shoulder
Everton are in total free-fall and boss, 41 year old Lisbon born Marco Silva must be looking over his shoulder. The former right back, who never made Portugal’s national team, has now taken over from Chelsea’s Maurizio Sarri as second favourite in the Barclays Premier League’s sack race.
He’s 2/1 behind firm favourite Claude Puel who’s 5/4. Losing at Millwall in the FA Cup, and at home to Wolverhampton, has increased speculation about Silva’s future.
With 6 points in the last 6 games, Everton must be thankful they picked up enough points earlier in the season to avoid the battle for the drop. Three of those points came with a 1-0 win at Huddersfield.
They also managed a 2-0 home win against Bournemouth who, despite thrashing Chelsea 4-0, are in the same kind of form having lost 10 of their last 15 games Premier League games.
Everton Team News
Up front Richarlison is leading the way with 10 goals but he’s failed to find the net against any of the top 6. Last season at Watford he managed 5, again none against the big boys, and he went from December to May without scoring last season.
Silva, who managed him at Watford, must have seen something and persuaded the Everton board to splash out £50M. He’s 8/1 to score the first goal and 12/5 to score at anytime. Gylfi Sigurdsson, at 3/1, might be a safer bet in that market. Injured Defenders Yerry Mina and Phil Jagielka both look set to miss out.
City Goal Feast!
Manchester City have lost 2 of their last 4 away Premier League games at Newcastle United and Leicester City. Two teams that are up for a battle and with experienced managers.
Everton don’t possess those qualities and City, so rampant in English domestic cups recently with 22 goals in 4 games could well serve up a Goodison goal feast.
Gabriel Jesus – Hat Trick?
In the Premier League this season, Jesus has struggled with only 5 goals, although 2 came in the 3-1 home win against Everton back in December. He could get his turn at Everton with a glut of fixtures on the horizon.
David Silva Player of the Year?
Marco might be under pressure but his name sake David’s enjoying a fine season and is 12/1 to win the Premier League PFA Player of the Year. City’s Silva is 7/1 to score the first goal and 21/10 to score anytime.
Manchester City Team News
Team Captain Vincent Kompany looks set to miss out through injury whilst French full back Benjamin Mendy is rated with a 75/25% chance after missing out during the last 13 games with a knee injury.
