It had all been going so well but on Friday, England’s Euro 2020 qualifying campaign hit a bump in the road. They went to the Czech Republic, took an early lead but then ended up losing the game 2-1. It’s still looking good for England in this group and they should be able to get back into winning ways with a win in Bulgaria.
England had won all of their four previous games in this Euro 2020 qualifying group. 19 goals had been scored and another was swiftly added in the Czech Republic. Harry Kane converted a penalty in the fifth minute and it’s 17/4 (5.25) at Coral that England score in the first ten minutes of this game.
That early lead didn’t last long and as the game went on, England’s performance became a disappointing one. Jordan Sancho had a stinker, his worst game and didn’t produce a great deal. England’s defending, which showed weakness when conceding three goals against Kosovo, continued to look shaky. There’s nothing shaky about a trip to the Betbull website, so pay them a visit.
The Czechs fought back to win 2-1 and go level on points with England, but behind them on head-to-head scores. England stay top and are still four points clear of third placed Kosovo with three games remaining. A win in Bulgaria and points dropped by Kosovo at home to Montenegro will see them safely qualified. The odds on England winning this match are 2/9 (1.22) at Unibet.
Bulgaria are bottom of the group with only three points and are still looking for their first win. They lost 4-0 at Wembley but did manage to get draws away in both Kosovo and Montenegro. Two home games have seen them lose to Kosovo 3-2 but only conceded the winning goal in the 93rd minute. Bulgaria also drew 1-1 with Montenegro having to come from behind to salvage a point. It’s 5/1 (6.0) on this match ending in a draw if visiting Paddy Power.
They have 10 games without a win, their last victory being a 2-1 home win over Cyprus in the Nations League last season. There are odds of 16/1 (17.0) at BetVictor on them winning this match and putting England in more trouble.
England have never lost to Bulgaria in 11 previous meetings. Bulgaria have only scored in one of the last nine meetings. The odds on England winning this match to nil are 3/5 (1.6) with 888sport.
There were no major injuries sustained in the Czech Republic game. It’s likely Gareth Southgate might make some changes after Friday’s performance.
England are still top of the group and with a home game to come against Montenegro, qualification should still be on its way. They need to improve from Friday and although Bulgaria are bottom, this won’t be an easy game. A bet on England to win and be leading at both half and full time are 4/6 (1.66) at William Hill.
