Tuesday 19 March: 7.45pm KO
The top two in the Scottish Championship meet on Tuesday evening and it’s a game that the home side simply has to win. They trail Ross County by 11 points and the chances are they will have to rely on the play-offs if they want to win promotion. A win for the league leaders on Tuesday would make it almost certain they return to the Scottish Premiership next season.
Dundee United start this game in second place in the Scottish Championship but their title hopes aren’t looking good. They are currently 11 points behind their opponents and it’s 8/1 (9.0) at Bet365 that they win the Scottish Championship.
There are only nine games to go but two of them are against Ross County. A couple of wins over their rivals is the order of the day or it’ll definitely be the play-offs for them. The worry is though that two bad results against County might put their play-off position in jeopardy. They are currently seven points clear of fifth-placed Inverness Caledonian Thistle.
United need to bounce back from their last league game which ended in a 2-1 defeat at Partick Thistle. That followed an FA Cup exit at the hands of Inverness. Home league form is strong at present with four wins in their last five with the other being drawn. They have won seven of their 13 home league games and the odds on them beating Ross County are 6/4 (2.5) at Paddy Power.
Ross County also lost to Inverness in the Scottish Cup but their league form continues to be impressive. They have won their last six league games and scored an impressive 15 goals in the process. A win here would almost take them to the winning line in the Scottish Championship. The odds on them winning the title are only 1/9 (1.11) at Sportpesa.
They have won 11 out of 14 home league games but their away form isn’t as impressive. Only six out of 13 have been won but that includes victories in their last two away matches at Dunfermline Athletic and Partick Thistle. Before that though, they had lost successive away games at Greenock Morton and Queen of the South without scoring. You can get 17/10 (2.7) on them winning this match.
Their weekend match at Dunfermline was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch. After this match they travel to Alloa but then have three consecutive home league games and that should see them earning the points that will win them promotion.
The two teams have met each other three times already this season. Two have been won by Ross County and that includes a 5-1 league victory in late September.
Dundee United will be without Pavol Safranko who will be on international duty for Slovakia this week.
Billy McKay scored a hat-trick for Ross County in their 5-1 win earlier in the season but misses this game (and the rest of the season) due to injury.
Two for Ross County?
Ross County are in good scoring form at present and have scored at least twice in each of their last ten league and cup games. There are odds of 7/5 (2.4) at Coral on them getting the ball in the back of the Dundee United net at least twice.
Graham in Form
Ross County may have lost the services of Billy McKay for the rest of the season but Brian Graham is in good form. He’s scored in both of the last two league games and is 6/1 (7.0) at Betfair to be the first goal scorer in this match. You can get odds of 2/1 (3.0) at SkyBet on him scoring at any time in this game.
Clark To Score Again?
Nicky Clark is in top form for Dundee United and has found the back of the net in his last three games for Dundee United. Can he make it four in a row? He’s evens (2.0) at William Hill to score on Tuesday and 7/2 (4.5) at Betway to get the first goal.
Dundee United need to win this game but aren’t in the best of form with only one win in their last four matches. Home form is good though and this looks like being a draw with both teams scoring. The odds on that are 7/2 (4.5) at Bet365.
