Doncaster Rovers v Barnsley: Prediction, Odds, Betting Tips and Team News

Friday 15 March: 7.45pm KO

Live on Sky Sports Football

A vital game at the top of English League One. Both sides drew their games on Tuesday but remain in with a good chance of promotion this season. Barnsley aare second in the table, while their opponents are sixth, the final promotion play-off position.

Latest Odds

It was perhaps a little predictable that second-placed Barnsley were held to a home draw by Sunderland on Tuesday evening (March 12). That was the 16th league draw for their opponents.

The draw kept Barnsley in the second automatic promotion spot but with leaders Luton Town winning at Bradford City, they are now five points behind them. The odds on them winning the League One title are now 11/4 (3.75) at William Hill.

Promotion prospects and an immediate return to the Championship are looking good though. They have a four-point lead over Sunderland, but the Black Cats do have a game in hand on them.

Barnsley can’t afford any slip-ups and will be looking to extend their impressive run of 17 league games without defeat. They haven’t lost a league game since December 8 and their only loss this year was in the FA Cup to Premier League Burnley.

Away from home, Barnsley have gone seven league games without defeat. The odds on them winning at Doncaster on Friday are 7/5 (2.4) at SkyBet. A win would be their tenth away league win of the campaign equaling Portsmouth’s record.

Their opponents are sixth in the table but ten points behind Charlton Athletic in fifth but with a game in hand. They have been losing ground in recent weeks with the 1-1 draw at Blackpool on Tuesday making it five league and cup games without a win.

Their FA Cup run came to an end with a home loss in the fifth round to Crystal Palace and haven’t recovered from that. The last four league games have only produced two points. That’s a big drop in form after winning eight league games between November and mid-February.

They are a point clear of seventh-placed Peterborough and Coventry in ninth are only three points behind them. Doncaster Rovers do have a game in hand on their rivals but that doesn’t matter too much when you aren’t winning games. You can get 4/1 (5.0) on Rovers winning promotion this season.

It’s their away form that is the main problem with no wins in their last six in the league. Home form is much more impressive with no losses in their last nine in League One and plenty of goals scored. You can get odds of 19/10 (2.9) on them beating Barnsley.

Head-to-Head

Doncaster Rovers have only lost one of their last eight games against Barnsley. They have won three of their last four home games against their opponents.

Team News

No major injuries reported from Tuesday’s games.

Over 2.5 Goals on the Agenda

Doncaster Rovers home games have been producing plenty of goals of late. Six of the last seven home games have seen over 2.5 goals scored. It’s 17/20 (1.85) at Betway that happens in this match. That could well happen as four of the last five Barnsley away league games have had over 2.5 goals scored in them.

High Scoring Doncaster

Doncaster struggle on their travels but the goals keep flowing at home. They have scored at least twice in eight of their last nine home league games. The odds on them scoring at least twice in this game are 31/20 (2.55) at Coral.

Prediction

Both teams could do with a win in a tight League One promotion battle. Barnsley could have done with beating Sunderland on Tuesday night, while Doncaster’s poor away run continued with only a point at Blackpool. There’s not too much between these two sides and Doncaster have only lost two home league games this season. A draw looks likely and that’s 12/5 (3.4) at Betfair.
