Gaming operator Delaware North has put its faith in the growing sports betting market in West Virginia with the launch of two casino sportsbooks and an online betting service in the state.

The two retail sportsbooks based at the Wheeling Island Hotel-Casino-Racetrack and the Mardi Gras Casino near Charleston launched on December 27 following statutory notification to the West Virginia Lottery Commission and a period of field testing.

The launch of the new sports betting facilities is the result of a collaboration with Miomni Gaming, announced back in October, which saw the mobile sports technology company work with Delaware North to produce retail and mobile sports betting platforms, including the BetLucky.com sports betting app, which is the first of its kind in West Virginia. The app is downloadable from the BetLucky.com site or through the Apple App Store and can be used for sports betting anywhere in West Virginia.

Given the novelty of sports betting to most US customers, the app has been designed to be easy to pick up and incorporates a number of features designed for the US market. Speaking about the launch of the BetLucky service, the Vice President of marketing in the Delaware North gaming division, Luisa Woods, said they were delighted with the finished product:

“We think West Virginians and visitors to the Mountain State are going to love how easy it is to register and use the app.”

The two Delaware North casinos have been designed to create a sports bar atmosphere with a range of eating and drinking options, and the company hopes to attract sports betting fans from throughout West Virginia and from neighbouring states.
