UK bookmaker Ladbrokes Coral have extended their sponsorship of the Welsh Grand National, breaking a record for Graded race sponsorship.
The announcement by Arena Racing Company (ARC), Chepstow Racecourse and Ladbrokes Coral of a five year renewal for the sponsorship of the showpiece race marks the longest sponsorship of a Graded race sponsorship in UK National Hunt racing.
Under the terms of the renewal, Coral will extend its sponsorship of Wales’ most prestigious race until 2022, bringing up 50 years of continuous sponsorship by the same company.
Speaking about the news, the PR Director for Ladbrokes Coral, Simon Clare, said that they were proud to be able to extend their relationship with this famous race:
“The Coral Welsh Grand National is one of our flagship sponsorships and we are looking forward to celebrating the 50th anniversary of our partnership in 2022”.
The Welsh National is the most popular event in the Welsh racing calendar, held during the Christmas period every winter, over three miles and 5½ furlongs, and has previously been won by a number of top steeplechasers including Raz de Maree and Native River.
Commenting on the sponsorship extension, the Executive Director of Chepstow Racecourse, Phil Bell said that they were delighted with the renewal and that it was an honour for Chepstow to host one of the UK’s longest running sponsorships.
This year’s Welsh National is likely to be a particularly competitive event with Ladbrokes Trophy runner-up Elegant Escape taking on the 2018 Grand National Trial winner Ramses De Teillee, and serious Irish contenders in Folsom Blue and Baie Des Iles.
