Carlisle United v Notts County: Prediction, Odds, Betting Tips and Team News

Tuesday 12 March: 7.45pm

Carlisle United returned to form with a 2-1 home win over Swindon Town on Saturday. That win took them back into the League Two promotion play-off positions. They host bottom-of-the-table Notts County whose long time in the English Football League seems to be coming to an end.

Latest Odds

A run of five league games without a win had seen Carlisle United drop out of the English League Two promotion play-off places. They finally got back in winning ways when beating Swindon Town 2-1 on Saturday March 9.

The victory took them up to seventh in the table and that’s the final play-off position. They are nine points behind the final automatic promotion place and are currently 8/1 (9.0) to go up this season.

Carlisle have rather blown hot and cold this season. At one stage they were as low as 16th in the table but a long unbeaten run took them all the way up to fourth in the league. Then they started another poor patch with just two points from five league matches before Saturday’s win.

Home form this season has seen Carlisle win nine of their 18 league games but they have lost seven of them. Only one of the last eight has ended in defeat though, a 3-2 loss to MK Dons who are currently third in the table. The odds on a home win over Notts County are evens (2.0) at Betfred.

Notts County suffered a 4-1 defeat at Cheltenham Town on Saturday and it’s looking as if they will be exiting the English Football League at the end of the season.

They were one of the 12 founder members of the Football League in 1888 but their days look numbered. County remain bottom of the table and seven points from safety. That’s all but eight points due to their appalling -35 goal difference and they are currently 2/7 (1.28) at SkyBet to be relegated this season.

It’s all a bit of a shock for their fans considering the fact they finished fifth in the table last season making the play-offs. The hopes of making it into League One ended with defeat by Coventry City and they now face life in the National League. That’s if they survive as the club is looking for a new owner.

County had been showing some signs of recovery after making some signings in the January transfer window. They earned seven points from three games but since then have just one point from the next four. It’s 13/5 (3.6) at William Hill that they can beat Carlisle United on Tuesday evening.

They will have to improve their away league record to do that. Only two of their 18 games have been won and one of those was against 23rd placed Macclesfield Town. They have just one win in their last 12 away league games with only six points earned.

Carllsle United have failed to beat Notts County in their last four meetings. Two of the four have ended in a 1-1 draw and the odds on that score on Tuesday are 6/1 (7.0) at BetVictor. Home form against County is a bit more promising with only one loss in the last four.

Team News

There are no injury problems reported by Carlisle United. Notts County make well make changes for this game as their manager was rather scathing over his team’s performance against Cheltenham.

Notts County have failed to score in five of their last eight away league games. You can get odds of 17/10 (2.7) on Carlisle keeping a clean sheet in this match.

Second Half Success

Carlisle United have made a habit of scoring in the second half of their games. That’s happened in all but two of their last 15 games (and they didn’t score at all in two of them). There are odds of 8/13 (1.61) at Betway on over 0.5 goals being scored by Carlisle in the second half of this match. It’s evens (2.0) at BoyleSports on the second-half being the highest scoring half in this match.

Carlisle United are back in the play-off positions and will want to stay there. They are back in winning ways and this looks an ideal opportunity against the league’s bottom side to get three more points. A win for Carlisle with over 1.5 goals in the game is 31/20 (2.55) at Coral.
