Among the “Entertainment” betting options at Bovada Sportsbook are many, many markets on Game of Thrones, mostly concerned with the odds of characters to die, or “perish” in the medieval world. A handful of other gambling markets center around potential Mars missions by SpaceX and other corporations.
But there’s another category, more bizarre and ludicrous than either of the former pair.
Bovada is offering markets on Barstool Sports’ pizza reviews, a popular sideshow marketed by Barstool Specials. Host Dave Portnoy (and occasionally guests) sample pies from all over the United States for the series, grading the restaurant concoctions from 1 to 10.
The betting site’s prop markets for the “cheesy” reviews include odds on whether Portnoy will dish-out a sub-1.0 review at any point in 2019, with “no” the current favorite at 5/11, and whether the host will give a glowing 9.9 or perfect 10 score to any slice throughout the podcast season, with “no” again the strong favorite at 4/19.
A perhaps slightly less-appealing line asks novelty gamblers to guess the average score of all Barstool Specials pizza reviews throughout the year against an Over/Under line of 7.1.
The book could be inviting some unwanted controversy by picking out Barstool for its only sports-themed reality TV proposition markets. Barstool has come under heavy fire for perceived racism, sexism, and toxic masculinity at various points throughout its tumultuous-yet-profitable existence.
But while some social-media users protest, others are just getting hungry:
