Since it was revealed in January that Kim Kardashian and Kanye West are expecting their fourth child, there has been widespread speculation over what name they will choose, and two bookmakers have been getting in on the debate by offering dedicated baby name markets.
The latest edition to the West clan, who is being carried by a surrogate mother, is rumoured to be a boy, which has narrowed the possibilities, although given that the Wests have opted for the names North, Saint and Chicago for their first three children, the betting is wide open.
The current leading contender in the markets offered by Paddy Power and Betfair is a more traditional option. Robert is rated as the 8/1 favourite with both bookmakers; Robert being the name of Kim Kardashian’s father – the former defence lawyer for O.J.Simpson. A close second favourite is Jay, which is presumably a reference to Jay-Z, and the complicated relationship between the two high-profile artists, which has veered regularly between friendship and feud.
But the most eye-catching name to appear near the top of the betting markets is that of the current President. If you think that the fourth West child will go through life with the name Donald, you can back your hunch at 14/1 with Paddy Power and Betfair. It’s a choice of name that would certainly be controversial. Kanye’s vocal support for President Trump, which has extended to conducting a public meeting with Trump in the Oval Office, backing the President on social media and even wearing a MAGA hat, has not gone down well with his peers in the music industry, and although West has not tempered his political views in response, naming his fourth child after such a divisive figure may be a controversy too far, if not for Kanye, then certainly for Kim.
As the art of celebrity baby-naming is often an unpredictable one, there are plenty of even more outlandish options for punters to take a chance on. Barack at 250/1 might provide political balance, but seems an unlikely choice, while Jesus at 20/1 might be almost as controversial as Donald. If you think Kanye will want at least one of his children to share his name, you can back Kanye Jr at 300/1 or Yeezy and Weezy, both at 250/1. And with a North West already in the family, some punters might be tempted to work their way around the compass by backing West West at 66/1.
The list also includes a host of place names. The Wests went for Chicago as the name for their second daughter, who was born last year, and if you think that geography holds the answers to this baby name mystery, there are plenty of options to choose from including New York (150/1), Milan (250/1), Miami, California and London (all 300/1) and the slightly less plausible Minnesota at 400/1.
And the good news for punters who back a loser is that it may not be your last opportunity. According to some reports Kanye is keen on adding at least three more little Wests to the family.
