Arsenal dropped out of the top four at the weekend but will be back there if beating Newcastle United in this Monday night Premier League game. If Tottenham fail to win at Anfield on Sunday, the Gunners will climb to third in the table with seven games to go.
Arsenal will spend the weekend hoping some of their rivals for a top-four finish drop points. That didn’t happen on Saturday when Manchester United beat Watford 2-1 at home to move into fourth ahead of the Gunners. A win for Chelsea on Sunday will take them level on points with them. It’s 4/7 (1.57) at Betfair that Arsenal finish in the top four and make their return to the Champions League next season.
Monday night should see them back in the top four as they host Newcastle United. Arsenal lost their opening home league game of the season to Manchester City. Since then, Unai Emery has yet to see his team suffer a home defeat in the Premier League.
In all competitions, Arsenal have only suffered home losses to Spurs in the Carabao Cup (that one hurt) and an FA Cup defeat by Manchester United. No Premier League defeats though and the last nine have all been won. You can get odds of 2/5 (1.4) at BetVictor on them making it ten out of ten with a win on Monday evening.
Newcastle United fans have had their usual kind of season. They wait and wait for Mike Ashley to sell the club and moan about the lack of big signings while they battle relegation. While Ashley is making offers aplenty for failing businesses, he still can’t negotiate the sale of Newcastle United. January did see a fair amount spent in the transfer market and their league position isn’t frightening their fans to death.
Home form is the reason that United are 14th in the Premier League, seven points above the bottom three. Paddy Power will offer you odds of 150/1 (151.0) on them being relegated this season. Those odds would be much shorter if Newcastle hadn’t won their last five home league games. That’s a massive turnaround after losing eight of the first 11.
They still have big problems away from home. with no wins in their last seven league games. Overall, they have only won two away league games all season and they were at Burnley and Huddersfield Town. Hence the fact it’s 8/1 (9.0) at Betfred that they can win this match on Monday.
Arsenal have won 11 of their last 12 games against Newcastle United. The other was an away loss last season at a time when they were appalling on their travels. Newcastle last won an away game against the Gunners in 2010. Arsenal have kept two clean sheets in their last couple of home games against United, it’s 11/8 (2.37) at Coral on Arsenal winning this game to nil.
Arsenal will be without midfielder Lucas Torreria who is suspended for this game. Granit Xhaka is a major doubt after being injured when playing for Switzerland against Denmark last week. Newcastle United are definitely without the suspended Fabian Schar and Jamaal Lascelles is injured and may miss this game.
Aubameyang to Score Again
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is in great form for Arsenal this season. He’s scored three goals in their last two games and is 5/6 (1.83) at Ladbrokes to score in this game. That would help him in his quest for the Golden Boot, you can get odds of 6/1 (7.0) at Sportingbet on him being the Premier League’s top goal scorer this season and is only two behind Sergio Aguero.
Arsenal need the three points to get back into the Champions League places and should get them. Newcastle United have improved their home form but are still dismal on their travels. A bet on Arsenal to win and over 1.5 goals in the game has odds of 4/7 (1.57) at Betway.
